I heard a very disturbing statistic on the radio in Buffalo today. Donte Whitner, the 8th overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft has 2 career interceptions and 1 career sack. I remember standing 2 feet away from the TV screen hoping for Matt Leinart, Jay Cutler, or about 30 others. Donte Whitner?!?!?!?! I thought I knew every player that would be drafted in the first round that year, apparently not. Whitner has been completely worthless since entering the NFL. He is the opposite of a playmaker. I don’t think he has made a play in the NFL yet. This got me to thinking about the Bills previous drafts and the “Big” 10. First of all there are 11 teams in the Big “10″, and they are not big at all. Of all the first round picks from the Big 10 in the last 5 years, there have been a few offensvie lineman that have played well on the NFL level. Besides that, just a bunch of over-hyped busts or mediocre starters or even back-ups. Ya Santonio Holmes made one great catch, so what. Ted Ginn Jr.? Vernon Gholston? Even A.J. Hawk has been pretty mediocre. Now the bills just drafted Aaron Maybin, from the Big 10. I am predicting a total bust. He’s young like Whitner was, came out of the Big ten like Whitner, and was drafted too high, like Whitner. Maybe three years from now Maybin will have 2 sacks and 1 forced fumble, like Whitner, but obviously playing a different position. (more…)

I think the NFC East could go either way this year. Â No one else may think the NFC East could flop this year, but I could see it. Â The Giants are the only team in the division that I believe will live up to expectations this year. Â But one or two big injuries and the Giants could be in a very tough spot. Â The Cowboys are a bit of a wild card this year. Â Romo struggled after being injured last year and the team just did not win enough games. Â There will be a tremendous amount of pressure on Roy Williams this year as well. (more…)
The Florida Gators will win the BCS National Championship this year. They have Tim Tebow, now a senior, and all 11 starters returning on defense. They are a total slam dunk to win the title. But wait, what about Texas, Oklahoma, and even Ohio State? All of these teams certainly should have outstanding years as well. However, Florida is just going to be too tough. (more…)
Rough Start to the Pre-Season for the Bills
Posted by: Ryan McNulty, in Football, General Sports
It’s only pre-season. This is what I keep telling myself after each of the Bills pre-season games so far this year. High hopes and expectations are always on the minds of Bills fans at the beginning of every year. “Superbowl man, this is it.” A phrase uttered by Bills fans in August and September all too often. I like to believe it is a legitimate possibility too, but after the start to the pre-season this year, I’m just as nervous as the next Bills fan. Incomplete passes, 2-3 yard runs gone wrong, mediocre defense. It’s all too familiar, and Bills fans myself included are sick of it. We bring in T.O., which I am all for, but now he is out with a toe injury. An injury that seems like nothing to the casual eye, but toe injuries have ended the career of NFL players, Deion Sanders to name one. So all that is running through my mind right now is that T.O. will either be troubled by this injury all year long, or something worse. (more…)
